Tax free bikes for commuting with Cycle Solutions Bike to Work Scheme!

This government scheme aims to make cycling more attractive and more accessible by taking advantage of some unique tax incentives.

Our aim is to get more people cycling to work on a regular basis. This should in turn reduce traffic congestion and pollution to the environment and also improve the health and fitness of the general public.

Cycle Solutions has developed the Bike to Work Scheme to help you take advantage of the benefits of the Green Transport Plan. We offer the perfect way to go green and free yourself and your company of the daily commuter grind. Cycle Solutions gives you the opportunity to offer your staff savings of up to 50.7%* on the cost of brand new bikes and cycling equipment.

Cycle Solutions has over 6 years experience setting up Bike to Work Schemes in partnership with organisations, large and small.

How does the bike scheme work?

Companies are able to loan their staff bikes and cycle equipment as part of their employee benefits package. The Bike2work Scheme then makes it possible for employers to offer employees tax reductions if they wish to enjoy the benefits of cycling to work. By taking advantage of these generous tax exemptions, employees will make a ‘salary sacrifice’ in return for the tax-free benefit of the bike and cycling safety equipment.

What are the benefits to the employee?

Employees will qualify for a saving of between 31% and 50.7%* off the retail cost of bikes and accessories. Cycle Solutions are able to offer employees a choice of over 140 brands, these include mountain bikes, hybrids and road bikes to name a few. We can also supply all the necessary accessories and cycling equipment to ensure employees are safe when riding to work. We have the ability to supply bikes to suit all needs, including recumbents, tandems, tricycles, power assisted.

What are the benefits to the employer?

Improving staff health, fitness and morale - Improved health and fitness of the workforce leads to a better performance at work and fewer sick days being taken. Furthermore, by offering the Cycle to Work Scheme the employers can show commitment to the health and wellbeing of their workforce.

The Scheme also adds extra incentives to the basic salary package. This helps to retain valued staff reducing staff turnover.

Improving a company’s environmental image - Promoting alternative transport initiatives shows the employer has a keen interest in the well-being of the local community and environment. This is an example of a company fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and will create positive public sentiment.

Reducing parking and congestion problems - Introducing a Bike to Work Scheme will reduce traffic congestion and subsequently pollution on the roads in the surrounding area. Furthermore, fewer allocated spaces will be needed/demanded in the workplace for parking.

Savings to be made for everyone - As there is no financial cost to the employer, all of the above only helps to improve the company’s competitive advantage within the market place. Even better, the ‘salary sacrifice’ comes from the employees’ gross salary – Saving the employer money by reducing their National Insurance Contributions.
