Bikes4School - getting kids and families on their bikes!

The Bikes4School scheme was setup as a reaction to the increased concerns about children's health and their lack of exercise. Bikes4School works in partnership with schools and local education authorities all over the UK to encourage pupils and their families to get on their bikes. Bikes4School enables participants to benefit from huge savings on the cost of bikes and cycling safety equipment. Meanwhile, schools will benefit from regular quarterly payments from Bikes4School, which are directly related to the value of orders received from parents, children and teachers.

Buying bikes for schools? Bikes4School helps schools raise funds and promotes a healthy, eco-friendly image. Children and their families are entitled to discounts on all bikes and every purchase made gives cash back to your school.

What is it? When a school registers on the website, by filling out a few simple details, they will be sent a registration pack. This pack contains posters, stickers and leaflets to advertise the scheme, along with a unique school code. The school code enables participants to log on to get their 15% discount on the website. Every time an order is placed 5% of the purchase value goes directly back to the school. The school can monitor the amount they have accrued by viewing the admin section of the website, and a cheque will be sent to the school quarterly.

How much is on offer? There is no limit to what is given, but it depends on how many people enter each school's code. There is no cost or additional workload involved for the individual schools but head teachers can log on to see a full record of purchases. Schools receive the 5% donations through quarterly payments.

What will it fund? Schools are encouraged to reinvest their income in projects that encourage pupils to become more active and healthy, or to improve cycle parking and storage facilities around the school. However, there are no conditions attached to the financial payments received.

Who can apply? Any school, college or university in the UK is able to sign up to the scheme.
